Columbia Record Label   An Overview: Columbia Records has come a long way from its beginning at the end of the nineteenth century, although its product remains basically the same. From the 1880s to the present, the company has sold prerecorded sound. A music industry pioneer in both technology and content, Columbia Records continues operating as one of the four label groups of Sony Music Entertainment Inc. (SMEI), a global recording company. The other three label groups within SMEI are Epic Records Group, Sony Classical, and Relativity Entertainment Group.   Columbia Records originated in the late 1880s as the Columbia Graphophone Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut. The original company was built upon the experiments of scientist Charles Sumner Tainter and Chichester A. Bell. Bell, a cousin of telephone inventor Alexander Graham Bell, was an engineer.   The Rock Feature The red, black and white colour palette used for this particular cover helps to support the idea of power. Red is associated with muscularity and even brutality at times, this almost acts as a motif for Johnsons persona who usually plays intimidating characters in media products. The black colour creates a bold statement and perhaps alludes to his black history, black is also a masculine colour , constructing Johnson as a hyper-masculine individual.  Johnson has a direct gaze at the audience, making eye  contact.  It's conventionally intimidating and it adds to  the more personal approach of this format. The intensity of his stare and timid facial expressions connote a sense of seriousness and solemnity which we should  approach with our bodies.
